100 years ago – 3 – 18 December 1910: Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft presented a landaulet equipped with a valveless Knight sleeve valve engine at the Paris Motor Show. Series production of the first vehicle fitted with this unit, the 16/40 hp model, began in early 1911.
50 years ago – 17 December 1960: Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler-Benz AG, Fritz Könecke, presented a special long-wheelbase version of a Mercedes-Benz 300 d Landaulet to Pope John XXIII.
40 years ago – 12 December 1970: Jointly developed with Teldix, the first-generation anti-lock brake system (ABS) for passenger cars was presented to the press in Untertürkheim.

Maximum safety with optimum driving pleasure: The new Mercedes-Benz SLK – lifting the lid on safety

Stuttgart – In January 2011, Mercedes-Benz will be launching the new SLK. The agile sports car will feature a new, exciting design, exceptionally high levels of comfort for a roadster, as well as plenty of open-air driving pleasure. At the same time, it will also set new standards for open-top sports cars in terms of safety. The third generation of the trendsetter will make use of a whole host of the latest assistance systems to support the driver, including the drowsiness detection system ATTENTION ASSIST, developed by Mercedes-Benz and fitted as standard; the optional occupant protection system PRE-SAFE®, which is unique in the world; and the PRE-SAFE® Brake, which can apply the brakes autonomously in the event of an impending front-end collision. Breaking News from Stuttgart! MBUSA’s Stars of Service Champions have won third place at Daimler AG’s 2010 Global TechMasters international competition! In addition, Team USA tied Team Germany for the most individual medals earned!

Every two years, Daimler conducts the Global TechMasters international competition for Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars to determine which business unit has the best After-Sales team in the world. In November 2010, MBUSA will be participating for the first time by sending the Mercedes-Benz Stars of Service Champions to Germany where they will compete against teams from 13 other countries.

SLS and CLS Voted Top Car of the Year

Stuttgart – The readers of the German trade journal “Auto Zeitung” have voted the new Mercedes-Benz CLS the best model in the luxury segment. Another first place – for the second time in succession – went to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as best super sports car. Both cars received the renowned “Auto Trophy”. Dr. Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, and Dr. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management responsible for Group Research and Head of Development, Mercedes-Benz Cars, took receipt of the prestigious awards yesterday evening at the Meilenwerk centre in Düsseldorf. Meanwhile, the campaign for the Mercedes SLS AMG, entitled “Is it still a car?” was voted the best advertising campaign of the year. Andreas Fuhlisch, manager of Bauer Media KG, presented the corresponding award to Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales and Marketing. Continue reading

Mercedes-Benz CLS wins Golden Steering Wheel Award

More than a quarter of a million readers and a top-class jury comprising 40 automotive experts and prominent figures have voted the new Mercedes-Benz CLS the best new product in the executive and luxury class segment. As a result, “Bild am Sonntag”, “Auto Bild” and 26 associated European publications have awarded the new four-door coupé model the “Golden Steering Wheel” – one of the most important automotive awards in Europe. This coveted award was officially presented to Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler AG and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Cars, in Berlin yesterday evening. Continue reading
